Welcome, readers!

August 5, 2024

We’re marking a new beginning for Stet News with the announcement of two significant changes.  First, we’re heralding our new status as a nonprofit organization. Secondly, we’re unveiling a new website to complement our weekly newsletter.

Why being a nonprofit matters: Shifting from a for-profit company to a non-profit organization better aligns with our mission to be a community asset. We can now invest any profits we make into supporting our journalism rather than returning profits to shareholders or corporate investors.

  • We’ll continue to provide our coverage for free because we believe readers shouldn’t hit a paywall to access local news and information.
  • To succeed, we’ll rely on revenue from large and small donors, foundations, sponsorships and events, much like public television and radio.
  • Donations to Stet will now be tax-deductible based on IRS guidelines.

Why the new website? We’re unveiling this new website to complement your reading experience by making our coverage more visually appealing and easier to navigate.

We’ve made progress in a number of other areas this year, including:

  • Developing a Community Advisory Board.
  • Partnering with WLRN Public Media to share content.
  • Securing grants from two industry news organizations to help Stet grow.

The bottom line: Of all our changes this year, the most important and rewarding have been the steady growth in readership and subscriptions, and the donations we’ve received to help pay for our work.

We’re exceedingly grateful for your engagement and support.

Joel Engelhardt, Carolyn DiPaolo, Pam Fine and Liz Capozzi
